Blount Cemetery

(8th Dist., LL 197 - latitude 330250N, longitude 0844347W)
About 1 mile north of Greenville on Hwy. 100.

There may be more buried there but I'd hate to hazard a guess! I am a great, great, great granddaughter of Freeman W. Blount and Sarah R. Lassiter McDaniel Blount.

This cemetery is very old and the only "marking" was a stone wall surrounding the cemetery until two years ago when we put a Confederate marker on the grave of Henry H. Walker. The following people we know are buried there from obituaries published in the Meriwether Vindicator:

NAMEBIRTH DATEDEATH DATENOTES
Henry H. Walker 1836 Oct. 10, 1888(husband of Paulina P. Blount)
Hattie Walker February 1863 July 27, 1878(daughter of Paulina and Henry Walker)
Caroline "Carrie" Blount Nov. 28, 1829 May 1900(daughter of Freeman and Sarah Blount)
Mary "Mollie" Jane Smith Blount April 20, 1843 April 13, 1890(wife of Eli H. Blount)

The following people are almost certainly buried in this cemetery but we've been unable to locate obituaries or they don't specify where the burial took place.

This project is in need of volunteers to survey the known cemeteries and to photograph them in a size where those with impaired vision can read the dates and words plainly. Our greatest wish is to get the photos now before the stones are eroded too much.
One name or photograph or two, fifty, one hundred, etc. We would love to have your input and help and I am sure many, many people researching their families will appreciate you too. Got a story or history of a cemetery? Send it along and we will post it too. The information, as always, belongs to you and you can have it pulled from the site if you should want to, we just hope you don't want to.
